About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Lead to oversee all aspects of functional safety on special projects for a client. This role is a key leadership position, combining technical expertise in functional safety with a strong focus on team development, process enhancement, and technical delivery. You will work across hardware and software platforms, driving innovation and ensuring compliance with industry standards, including ISO 26262.
Key Responsibilities
- Functional Safety Leadership:
- Develop and implement functional safety processes, strategies, and cultures across the business.
- Lead the creation, review, and delivery of technical concepts and safety deliverables for both hardware and software systems.
- Process and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to ISO 26262 and other relevant industry standards.
- Develop and improve safety development processes and workflows across programs.
- Technical Oversight:
- Oversee hazard analysis and risk assessments (HARA), system-level safety concepts, and hardware/software safety implementations.
- Provide guidance on functional safety for cutting-edge automotive technologies such as ADAS, hybrid powertrains, and electronic control systems.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including OEMs, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert in functional safety for technical presentations, conferences, and stakeholder communications.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience:
- Proven track record as a Functional Safety Lead or equivalent in the automotive or related industries.
- Hands-on experience in systems engineering, hardware/software development, and functional safety leadership.
- Demonstrated success in delivering safety concepts for complex systems, including ADAS, hybrid powertrains, and electronic control systems.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of ISO 26262 and other relevant standards.
- Strong technical background in safety analysis, including FMEA, FTA, and DFMEA.
- Familiarity with tools like MATLAB/Simulink, INCA, and CANalyzer.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Experience managing teams and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences, including at conferences and academic institutions.
- Education:
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced qualifications in safety engineering are an advantage.
Desirable Skills
- Experience securing patents or delivering innovative technical solutions.
- Involvement in academic or industry lecturing on topics related to functional safety.
- Cross-cultural collaboration experience with international teams or clients.
