My client is a leading engineering consultancy specialising in Systems and Safety Engineering for safety-critical industries, including Aerospace, Defence, and Space. The consultancy works closely with high-profile defence contractors, delivering advanced defence solutions to ensure the safety and effectiveness of weapons systems in demanding operational environments.
They are seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to provide critical support on Land Systems projects including work on tanks, for a key defence client. This role will be integral to ensuring the safety and compliance of cutting-edge land systems, working with cross-functional teams across the product lifecycle.
The Role:
As a Senior Safety Engineer working on Land Systems projects, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of comprehensive safety cases for military vehicles, including tanks. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure that all systems are designed and developed with safety as a priority from concept to completion.
This role also offers opportunities to apply your knowledge of maritime systems safety in future projects, where your expertise will be invaluable. You will be managing the safety case lifecycle, ensuring that all deliverables meet MOD standards and project milestones.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Case Management: Lead the development and maintenance of safety case reports for land systems (tanks and armoured vehicles) in line with Def Stan 00-56.
- Safety Case Delivery: Prepare, review, and maintain Safety Case Reports, ensuring that all safety aspects of the system are captured and that hazards are identified, mitigated, and controlled.
- Safety Management Plans: Develop and implement Safety Management Plans (SMPs) to outline the safety activities, tools, and processes for the entire lifecycle of the project.
- Bow Tie Analysis: Conduct Bow Tie analyses and other hazard identification methodologies to assess and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- eCassandra: Use eCassandra to manage safety case data and support decision-making processes related to risk management.
- Maritime Experience (Desirable): Support potential future projects in maritime environments, where a background in maritime safety systems will be an asset.
- Stakeholder Management: Engage with internal teams and external clients to ensure that safety requirements are clearly defined and met throughout the development process.
- Compliance: Ensure all safety assessments and reports comply with Def Stan 00-56 and other relevant defence and industry safety standards.
- 5+ years of experience in safety engineering, preferably within the defence sector.
- Expertise in Def Stan 00-56 and its application in land systems projects.
- Proven experience in Safety Case Management Systems, including the delivery of Safety Case Reports and managing safety assessments.
- Strong understanding of Safety Management Plans and how to effectively implement them in defence projects.
- Experience using eCassandra for safety case data management and risk analysis.
- Knowledge of Bow Tie Analysis and other hazard identification techniques.
- Maritime experience is highly desirable, but not essential.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Eligible for Security Clearance (SC) or ability to obtain SC clearance.
